C6 - Tree Planting for Adopt-A-Park

Last Wednesday, Kahikatea (C6) joined a crew from Auckland Council and also Restoring Nature to plant 1200 native trees (Kahikatea, Rimu, Puriri, Tī Kōuka, Tarata) at the Warkworth Showgrounds, where a fenced reserve backs onto Kōwhai Park. The conditions were rain and mud. It was slippery, physical work! But our students were happy to do something productive for the whenua (land), such as increasing biodiversity and decreasing erosion and sedimentation. Students will be able to visit in years to come, when the trees have grown much taller than them, and say, 'I helped to plant those!”.
