Student Learning Conversations 10 and 11 April 2024

At Warkworth School we focus on learning and constantly have conversations with children about what they are learning, why they are learning it and what their next steps are. Part of this process includes feedback from teachers, peers and parents.  The research suggests that the way in which this feedback is given will contribute to how well learners move forward with their learning, that they are empowered, valued and given a chance to discuss their progress..

Our students will have an opportunity this term, on Wednesday 10 April and Thursday 11 April  at our Student Learning Conversations to share their successes with their family/whanau.

As many of you will already know, it is not only a time of celebration, but a time when your child can share their learning with you.  This opportunity to share makes a real difference to their learning progress.

NOTE SCHOOL CLOSURE TIME:  at 12:30 pm on Thursday 11 April.

So that we can schedule all our Student Learning Conversations, we will need to finish school earlier at 12:30 pm. We would appreciate it if students could be collected at this time. For parents and caregivers who are unable to make alternative arrangements, students will be able to stay at school, and we will provide an alternative education programme in the hall. A form will be sent home next week to gather this information.

What can you expect at a Student Learning Conference?

Each child in our school will be hosting a Student Learning Conference. Each family will be able to book a 45 minute slot which they can use to view their child’s learning. Families may or may not need the full time allocation.

Pohutukawa and Nikau Families will be having a Mahi Tahi te Honohono conversation which will look slightly different. This meeting will be 15 minutes in length with their guardian teacher and then there will be the opportunity for your child to show you some of their learning.

A set number of conferences will be happening in the whanau spaces at the same time so families will share the timeslot with other families.  Our staff will be available to communicate with every family at some point during the conference.  They are there to support and prompt if necessary but won’t take over from your child.  If you have significant concerns we ask that parents arrange an alternative time to meet with teachers.

This is an exciting experience for your child as the Student Learning Conference is an opportunity for them to give you a real insight into what actually goes on for your child each day.
