Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC)

Each term, a topic of inquiry encourages learners to broaden their knowledge and extend their information skills. The learning is often supported by local resource personnel and learning experiences outside of the classroom. These experiences and trips are planned by each learning community so that learning is connected to the real world and to children’s lives making it meaningful and relevant.

For example, resource personnel and exhibits come to us from MOTAT and Star Lab to enhance learning experiences. Trips to the local library and museum, Tawharanui Regional Park, Scandrett Regional Park, Leigh Marine Centre are just a few of the regular trips that support learning.

In addition to this, students from Year 4, 5 and 6 attend overnight camps as follows:

  • Miro Community (Year 4) - two days and one night

  • Kauri Community (Year 5) - three days and two nights

  • Kahikatea Community (Year 6) - four days and three nights

Parent volunteers assist with supervisions at camp. These experiences become valued memories of a child’s primary school years.
